Visual Artist, Architect
Carolina Zuniga (b. Santiago, Chile) is an artist and designer working in Miami. She is currently an intern architect at Portuondo Perotti Architects and a Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence. She decided to pursue the arts at a young age, attending Design and Architecture Senior High and then graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s of Architecture and a concentration in visual arts. Throughout her studies, she was the recipient of Cornell’s Priscilla and Robert Joy Prize and the AIA Diversity Advancement Scholarship. Most recently, she was awarded the AIA Women in Architecture ARE grant and she completed O, Miami’s Greenhouse Program.
Carolina’s artistic practice is centered on exploring the relationship between built environments and personal narratives. By merging elements of architecture with personal imagery, her work reveals the ways that space and identity intersect. To achieve this, she draws on a diverse set of skills honed in the architectural design process, including drawing, painting, drafting, photography, and model making. These techniques allow her to investigate and visually articulate the nuances of our connections to urban environments. Her current work is heavily informed by her upbringing in Miami, her background in residential architecture and her passion for fine art.
