Artistic Director for Artist as Catalyst
Alejandro Rodriguez is a writer, director and founder of Alejo Communication, a coaching and consulting company based in Miami, Florida and New York City, New York. Formerly he served as Deputy Executive Director for Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), where he co-founded the Artist as Citizen Conference, an immersive educational program hosted annually at Juilliard that developed young leaders by combining arts classes with career skills workshops, keynote speakers & panels on the subjects of citizenship, service & social justice. As a writer, his work has been called ‘“lyrical, pulsing and anthemic,” and his words have been featured in collaborations with musicians, choreographers and filmmakers all over the globe, including his most recent full-length show, In My Body, a collaboration with the street dance company, Bboyizm, which is currently on tour across Canada. He began his career as an actor and performed in theaters across the country, including at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Guthrie Theater, and the Humana Festival, as well as on television in Showtime’s Nurse Jackie. As a consultant and facilitator, he’s led courses for Netflix, Facebook, Visa, Johnson & Johnson, and several others. Recently, he served as the Associate Artistic Director for PlayMakers Repertory, North Carolina’s premiere professional theatre company. Roots in Cuba and Miami. A graduate of Juilliard.
