Day 42: Gillian Abbott

Calgary, AB, Canada

My inspiration for this piece is Maya Angelou’s quote, “I do not trust people who don’t love themselves and yet tell me, ‘I love you.'” I believe compassion is something we must cultivate first within ourselves and then towards others. Lovingkindness meditation offers us one path towards this desired fruition. I hope that the movement enables the viewer to embody the practice.

Gillian Abbott is an actress, dancer, and meditation teacher. Her performance credits include “Baby” in Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story On Stage; Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles LOVE; HBO’s Boardwalk Empire; The Metropolitan Opera’s Prince Igor and MacBeth; Stacey Tookey’s Moments Defined. She received her BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and is currently in the MFA Acting program at Columbia University. She received her meditation teaching certification from MNDFL in New York City.
