Dean of Students
Brooklyn Prospect Charter School
Jenna Talesnick is the Dean of Students at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School, Downtown Elementary. Jenna received her Social Work Master’s degree from Columbia University where she specialized in program development with a focus in family, youth, and children’s services. Jenna’s educational philosophy is grounded in equity, empowerment, social-emotional learning, and restorative practices. She is passionate about building systems that break down barriers to equitable education for all children. In addition to supporting students and families at Prospect Schools, Jenna spends time creating diverse and inclusive programs that build culture and support community well-being.
Jenna has always been passionate about the arts and expression. She studied classical ballet for the first 23 years of her life. During her undergraduate studies at The George Washington University she completed a minor in Theatre. She also served as the President of Balance: The GW Dance Group, a student-led all-inclusive organization composed of beginners through pre-professional level dancers. Jenna spent time choreographing, co-directing, teaching and performing with the group. A fun fact about Jenna is that she has danced in over 20+ full-length community performances of The Nutcracker.
At present, when Jenna is not in the school building, she can be found in the kitchen working on her small baking business where she sells her homemade Rugelach to raise money for different organizations. Not only does Jenna love baking, but she is also passionate about sharing her own culture through her passed-down family tradition of making Rugelach cookies. In the past, some of Jenna’s fundraiser bake sales include raising over $1,000 and selling over 500 Rugelach for the Biden-for-President campaign with the Bake for Biden initiative, and selling over 400 Rugelach raising $1,800 for The Loveland Foundation with the Bakers Against Racism initiative.
