Artist

Juasline “Juju” Plasencia (they/she) is an Afro-Caribbean mixed-media artist and fine arts teacher with a background in arts administration and museum education. Juasline is a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts from Hamilton College. Inspired by their Puerto-Rican and Dominican heritage, Juasline creates vibrantly painted portraits and sculptures of Femme Bodies of Color to encourage them to embrace their bodies proudly. Juasline explores many themes in her work such as colonization, femininity, sexuality, sexism, and the complexities of the Caribbean Diaspora. In doing so, Juasline hopes to bring healing to the communities who, due to systemic racism, sexism and more, have been made to feel that they are anything less than beautiful.
