Jung Yun

Novelist

Jung Yun was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. She studied at Vassar College, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she received her M.F.A. in English and Creative Writing. Her debut novel, SHELTER, was long-listed for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and a finalist for the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award. Her second novel, O BEAUTIFUL, will be published by St. Martin’s in fall of 2021.

Yun’s work has appeared in Tin House, The Massachusetts Review, The Indiana Review, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Review of Books, among others. She is the recipient of individual artist’s grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation; as well as artist’s residencies from MacDowell, the Ucross Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the National Humanities Center.

Currently, she lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and serves as an assistant professor of English at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She also serves on the board of directors at the Alan Cheuse International Writers Center at George Mason University.
