Artist as Catalyst, Community Engagement Coordinator – Los Angeles
Nabra Nelson is a community organizer and theater creator from Egypt, Nubia, and California. Based in Los Angeles, she is the Community Engagement Coordinator with The Peace Studio, a DEI Consultant with Avent Diversity Consulting, Teaching Artist with The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company, and Grant Writer for Dunya Productions. She is a Founding Company Member of both Dunya Productions, Seattle’s only Middle Eastern and North African-focused theatre company, and Heard Space Arts Collective, the only the women-of-color performance troupe in Milwaukee. Formerly, she was the Director of Arts Engagement at Seattle Rep, and the Community Engagement Associate at Milwaukee Rep. She was also the President of the Women’s Ensemble Theatre Troupe and a member of the Multicultural Drama Company in Santa Barbara, all of which use theatre as a tool for social justice. She is the co-host of the HowlRound Theatre Commons podcast Kunafa & Shay, which highlight contemporary and historical Middle Eastern and North African theater. As an artist, she is a playwright, director, and dramaturg who is committed to using theatre to strengthen her community and amplify under-heard voices. She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
